One down, one more to go...
- a date brought forward by 3 months- scrambling around Melbourne trying to lock in venues, photographers, celebrant, dresses, entertainment etc in within 3 - 4 months
- the venue florist who wanted to charge AUD $2K for 4 urns of flower arrangements... for that price, I'm sure the flowers would have all been covered with gold leaf, but I guess i'll never know
- thinking a friend would be honoured to be asked to be my bridesmaid only to be told blankly, "no time and no money" when it came down to travelling to Melbourne for my wedding
- Chinese dressmakers assuming they know best when it comes to bridesmaid dresses... lots of school uniform pleats, and a maid of honour dress with boobs which would have sat on the maid of honour's shoulder blades
- a Melbourne seamstress who was like 90+ and deaf and kept staring at me blankly whenever i showed up at her door on the 4-5 occassions i made an appointment to see her (but who managed to save the dresses - yay, for Joan!)
- a band camp on the weekend of the wedding which meant no affordable harpists were available for hire
- being unable to find an evening gown with suitable 'bling' - i know where you can find a nice cocktail or summer dress though
- stalking a Chinese musician / busker on Bourke Street and any Chinese association in Melbourne, obsessesed with the notion of having traditional Chinese music played as an alternative to a harpist... i now know the difference between a guzheng, er hu and pipa though!
- dealing with a wedding gown nazi, and being denied a first gown fitting for not having shoes
- countless arguments with the husband to be, and many nights sitting in bed thinking "it's not too late to elope"
- many moments of Bridezilla-ism
- a dance instructor who left the dance company and the bridal couple with a one-third complete routine
- not having wedding night accommodation booked at the venue due to miscommunication - goddamn Australian Open!!!
- our jazz band keyboardist who fell down the stairs and broke her tailbown one week before the wedding
- thinking that a friend would be lending us her car as one of the bridal cars only to find out 4 days before the wedding that said friend thought we were 'joking' when we originally asked and that car would in fact not be available (luckily said friend did a fantastic job of ushering!)
- raining non stop on the day... a very wet venue and a red carpet which ruined my Mariana Hardwick gown and Alan Pinkus shoes (arggghhhh, heart pain)... and constantly fearing for my life during the bridal dance routine due to the puddles of water everywhere....
DESPITE ALL THAT....
I had an amazing time.... the only problem was that the night just flew by so quickly! I even surprised myself by not being Bridezilla, not caring about the rain (except when I looked at the bottom of my dress at the end of the night) and not being stressed or tense throughout the day... I was just high on adrenaline the whole day, and was just extremely happy that our friends and family (especially those that travelled a fair way) were there to witness the day I married my best friend.
And we couldn't have done it without all the important people in our lives who contributed so much of their time and support throughout the whole process and on the day... I love you guys to bits!!!
For any bride-to-be's out there - I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel.... ensure you take a step back every so often to appreciate all the hard work that you have done... and most importantly, remember to enjoy your big day!
Here's to Wedding Number 2 in a couple of weeks :)
